Dear Janine,
We are really happy that our offer to build a harpsichord for the INSO and the people of Iraq has been accepted. We understand that the School of Music and Ballet in Baghdad will have access to it as well -- that is very exciting. It is good to think that our gift will be enjoyed by musicians and lovers of music and especially that it will be used by students. Thank you so much for conveying our inquiries to the INSO in Baghdad and for generally arranging this and particularly for offering to provide safe shipping to the INSO through the AFSC. I have shown our regular selling price below, you may require it for insurance or customs purposes. As Den said on the phone, it will take us about a year to build the harpsichord as we will have to piggy-back it with the other instruments we are making, but it should be ready for the 2004-2005 concert and school season, assuming things are back to normal enough for a concert season by then.
We usually send photos and progress reports the owner while we build the instrument, but in this case I think what we could do is to make them available online from our website. That way anyone who is interested -- you, donors/sponsors, maybe even people in Iraq -- can see it from anywhere they can get Internet access. I think we will also set up a donation page to see if we can't get some help with the materials and/or travel for a maintenance visit or two. I think a lot of the people who stop by our website would be happy to chip in a few bucks for this project. Den said you had mentioned that you might be able to find some $ for that, too, which would be wonderful, it will all help. If there is any $ left over Den would like to get some music to send along with the instrument. He suggests Broude facsimile scores, they are all public domain so can legally be photocopied for part scores, student study, etc..
Thanks again and best regards,
Dawn
