Features Giya Kancheli's Styx in honor of his friend Alfred Schnittke, showcasing viola, orchestra, a ton of percussion and lots of bass instruments (flute, sax, electric) -- and a spinet!!!

July 17, 2010, Leipzig, Germany -- Ilya Poletaev of Toronto, Ontario, Canada was awarded first prize for piano at the XVIIth (Seventeenth) International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition (Internationaler Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Wettbewerb) in Leipzig, Germany on July 17, 2010. This prestigious competition, open to musicians over the age of 16 of any nationality, takes place over ten days as part of the Bachfest Leipzig. It was founded in 1950 and was held every four years from 1964 to 1996 with five categories. Since 1997 it has been held every two years with three changing categories of competition. This years' categories were piano, harpsichord and violin/baroque violin. Prizes include concert engagements and the right to use the title “Bachpreisträger” (Bach Prize-winner) as well as substantial cash awards. Each of the three first prize winners receives a purse of € 10,000, second prize winners get € 7,500 and third prize winners € 5,000.

September 2, 2010, Almería, Spain -- FIMTE 2010 -- 10th International Symposium on Spanish Keyboard Music “Diego Fernández”. Two days of lectures, concerts, dancing and the occasional glass of wine, in sunny Spain, and in October, when most of us Nord Americanos can really use a little more sunshine. September 2, 2010, Almería, Spain -- The Cabezón 500th Anniversary Tour - October 11th -12th, 2010 -- Following the symposium, FIMTE will host excursions to the collections of Spanish keyboard instruments housed at the Burgos cathedral, Castrillo de Matajudíos, at Villasandino, Santoyo (Palencia), Convento de Santa Clara, Tordesillas (Valladolid) and the Fundación Joaquín Díaz, Urueña (Valladolid), including a visit to Antonio de Cabezón’s hometown.
