Klein-Spinett by Sperrhake (Passau, Germany) 1966. Small 'revival' harpsichord, compass C-f''' (54 notes), disposition 8' with buff . Case veneered in teak; 'reverse' keyboard, quilled in leather. The triangular shape puts the player at the front of the instrument so minimal wallspace required. Case in good condition, all notes play, everything works. Revival instruments are not considered professional quality instruments these days, but really sturdy. and not suitable for a student who wished to learn historical harpsichord technique. Could be a good home or church instrument if you like the 'revival' sound. Also OK if you would mainly be amplifying it, as for a pop or rock band. Jacks could be upgraded to wooden jacks which take Celcon plectra for about $1,000 (includes installation and voicing). Harpsichord Wanted -- Zuckermann Z-box Or Similar would be fine, budget $0 -- we have never done this before, but there's a first time for everything. An Anglican Catholic parish in North Carolina is looking for a cheap, preferably free, harpsichord to use in their liturgy. The pastor says, "It would be so beautiful for evensong." The budget is zero because the previous pastor was not a musician and the parish's music committee, for financial and not musical reasons, chose a midi organ for the new church and that is basically the budget for instruments. Sigh. The new pastor finds the sound of the midi organ, um, shocking, especially for small, thoughtful services such as evensong, weddings and funerals. Money is tight at St. B's, but reverent (what else?) pick-up can be arranged anywhere from the Atlantic to the Mississippi and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Circle. Large Wittmayer clavichord, SN 30, ca 1950's (?) unfretted 5-octave instrument. Compass FF to f''', double strung in steel with wound strings in the bass. Case is teak or similar with lighter coloured stringing on the cover, four screw-in legs (threaded wood, not shown). Comes with a wooden packing/shipping case. The bass and midrange on this instrument are very impressive.

Note: The clavichord is now safely in sunny France and the owner sent a report, including his adventure in (gasp) tuning! He says, " I hope it can encourage other people to get over the deadly FTFS (First Tuning Fear Syndrome)." [follow-up]

Wittmayer Clavichord, SN 587 (about 1968), in fine condition. C to d''' (51 notes) single strung in steel. Walnut case, teak naturals, ebony sharps, spruce soundboard. Wittmayer clavichords are much closer to their historic predecessors than most Wittmayer harpsichords. This instrument has a charming, soft, pleasing tone. The case is 41" by 14" by 5 1/2", and weighs about 28 lbs. It is single strung in steel rather than the more traditional double strung brass, but nonetheless, it has a good touch and a pleasant sound. Price $1200 Canadian or $800 USD plus shipping.

The register changers are operated by foot-pedals. Owner needs to make room for her harp. It plays reasonably well, but there are some splits in the soundboard.
