The BERMUDO Clavichord This elegant little clavichord is ideal for personal music, for children, for beginners, for travelers, or for anyone who wants a REAL instrument that will make music in a small space. Double-strung in brass, C/E to a'' (42 notes). With the short octave bass, the compass is just under 4 octaves. Den plays Bach and Fitzwilliam on it, Dawn plays Mozart. The tone is delightful and surprisingly loud for such a small instrument. Small and light, it goes with you anywhere. The design is based on Nelly van Ree Bernard's realization of a 1555 Iberian monochordium. The price is $2,500 USD and up depending on options. The version shown above, flame maple case, bird's-eye maple keys & cherry sharps, carved & gilded cherry rose, would be $3,000 USD. Each Bermudo comes with a copy of Mme. Van Ree Bernard's book Interpretation of 16th Century Iberian Music on the Clavichord, a wealth of information..
