| Detail of the rose. We made a tiny version of our Claviers Baroques double-crane rose for this instrument. Dawn first carved the rose in cherry then gilded it. It sits in a tiny turned cherry ring. The mouldings around the soundboard are also cherry. You can see the brass tangents on the ends of the keys which contact the strings as the key is depressed. The strings sound from the tangent to the bridge, like "hammering on" on a guitar. The bridge transmits the vibration to the soundboard which vibrates, moving the air to create the sound we hear. | |
