CLAVIERS BAROQUES' Bermudo clavichord

Building the Bermudo clavichord...

Now that the liners are all in, we are ready to put in to soundboard. We write the date on the inside and sign our names. The old builders often signed their work and this is one of the ways modern scholars and restorers have of dating old instruments and identifying their builders. We build carefully and take pains to use designs, materials and techniques that will last. We hope that our instruments will be in museums three hundred years from now, alongside instruments by Hubert, the Ruckers family and the other great masters, and someone will be reading our names.
